THE STORY... 

A rainy tuesday in winter 2013, an hour long train journey back from west London for a simple neapolitan pizza, continuous bemoaning of our beloved neighbourhood (‘why can nobody cook a damn pizza here?), and an ache in our souls for better access to quality dough, tomato, and fresh mozzarella, it was a watershed moment: ‘we have to do this’. The idea for Apollo was born.

A year later, we’d been all round italy, eaten some of the best pizza in our lives, got totally lost in Napoli, and met some great pizza makers. We borrowed a whole bunch of money, we spent nearly all of it on incredible pizza equipment which we’d piled into a derelict old site we’d found on Stoke Newington High Street, just around the corner from where we live.

With the help of all our friends, family, locals…even randoms off the street to help us build it, Apollo opened it’s doors in May 2015.

If you want a decent pizza in N16 you don’t need to travel for hours - you have the best one in London right in front of you. We enjoy sitting at the heart of a community that is producing some of the best ingredients in London: hackney growing communities salad from Stoke Newington & Clapton is unbeatable, 5 Points Craft Beer (brewed in Hackney Downs) now sells out both here at the pizzeria and at the brewery, we have the best Gelato in London (Nonna’s) made around the corner in Highbury - as well as a direct supply of the best Farina Caputo, San Marzano tomatoes, Mozzarella (Fior di Latte, Bufala & Burrata) all from Napoli.

2016 saw us get involved with our friends from @ Den Ldn (masterminds behind #Roofnic & Notch). They’ve helped to transform the bar spaces of Apollo & the cocktail list, and given it an extra fit out too. Finally Apollo is looking as fresh as all our ingredients.
